The Feud, the Shade and the Funny: Taylor Swift & Nicki Minaj’s Twitter Feud Rages On (Sort Of)
“Baby, now we got bad blood”―and with Katy Perry entering the Twitter beef between Taylor Swift and Nicki Minaj, I’m not sure how Tay-Tay can solve this.
On Tuesday, Twitterverse went rampant after rapper Nicki Minaj criticized the MTV Video Music Awards for (a) not recognizing the talents of black female entertainers, (b) the media and music industry’s traditional bias of favoring slim women, and, (c) snubbing her video “Anaconda” for the show’s coveted Video of the Year category. Oh snap!

In a single tweet, the “Beez in the Trap” performer broke open the media’s Pandora’s Box to shed light on the industry’s ever-present and always unsolved issues of feminism and racism: “If your video celebrates women with very slim bodies, you will be nominated for vid of the year.” (NOTE: The nominees in the category include Beyoncé, Kendrick Lamar, Ed Sheeran, Mark Ronson and Taylor Swift―the latter being the only “slim” entertainer in the category, according to Minaj.) Taylor wasted no time in responding, “I’ve done nothing but love & support you. It’s unlike you to pit women against each other. Maybe one of the men took your slot.”
That’s when things took a turn…for the hilarious. And the shady.
Bruno Mars and Ed Sheeran got into their own faux Twitter feud.
Kim Kardashian-West couldn’t help herself.
Then lost herself.
Breaking Bad actor Aaron Paul wanted peace. And pancakes. Possibly Starbucks.
And the final rotten (but oh so sweet―shade-wise) cherry on top: Swift’s musical nemesis, Katy Perry.
The “This is How We Do” singer is very likely referring to Swift’s Vevo-breaking “Bad Blood” video that centers on the violent (and sexy) planning of taking down a former friend-assassin. You know how those go! Perry’s ultimate point: Pot, don’t call the kettle black.
Here’s to hoping these two music divas can kiss, sing and make up!
